Abstract

The city's history is that of its public space. As we remember Marcel Poete "the city is a human collective" that over time has lost its unique characters and indivisible highlighting various facets; Today perhaps the notion that comes closest to the city is that of common space, used by multiple users for the same purpose which is the crisis of public space. Today there are various types of space, that changed over time, have changed their role losing the character of spontaneity to use: the historical square that is not always the true place of the public, but turns and bends in economic logic It is becoming primarily a place of tourism; green parks and gardens are not always accessible; the marginal spaces instead have become more frequent environments and self-managed communities. This is also a consequence of the contemporary condition where it is clear that most ways of life is more globalized lifestyles different. In this sense, two issues are fundamental to the design of the space in the contemporary city: the role of public space within the infrastructure and the temporary use (and collective) environments decommissioned. The current urban phenomena of the new "community" highlight social contacts within welldefined territories recovered and returned to the city through the collaborative dimension, leading back toward what is called "urban citizen" pointing to the identity profile of the urban context. So particular interest in the exploitation of the common space the line the "spontaneous policies" in which citizens express ideas to expand the welfare, the functionality and safety of the city. Here a useful aspect to planning is the ability of the temporary use of open spaces to create community and steer policies towards those areas are not considered until then as potential "urban spaces". The contribution shows new ways in the debate on the common area of the city, based on criteria of the cognitive dimension of the collaborative planning project. This is possible by removing the complexity of the contemporary city some of its constituent elements, bringing them back to a more organic and the role of glue between the common space (here meaning the union of cities, mobility and landscape).
